Just in time for Mother’s Day, Geobunga will host a free Mother’s Day Orchid Workshop that will teach attendees how to transplant, split, prune and properly care for orchid plants. Geobunga will have hundreds of beautiful orchids available at farm-direct wholesale prices, starting as low as $5.

The University of Hawaii Student Organic Farm Training (SOFT) program and the Tropical Plant and Soil Science Graduate Student Organization present an educational lecture series highlighting sustainable agriculture. In a diverse and changing world, the topic of sustainable agriculture brings necessary conversation and therefore changes, that are required in order to ensure a safe and healthy future for the next generation.

Keiki Storytime Offered this Spring at Kailua Library

Keiki Storytime Offered this Spring at Kailua Library

Kailua Public Library will offer Keiki Storytime this spring on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. under the Reading Tree from April 17 – May 8. 

Keiki Storytime is free and recommended for children ages 2 to 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The storytime will feature stories, sing-along songs, and a craft.

Contact the library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Benefit Plant Sale

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle will hold a benefit plant sale from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kailua Elementary School, 315 Kuulei Road (next to the Kailua Library). Shop for herb and vegetable starters, bromeliads, hibiscus, areca palms, ferns and more!

The plants are raised by women inmates at the Women’s Community Correctional Center who are part of the LKOC and WCCC’s “Learning to Grow Program. All plant sale profits go towards this program, which includes hydroponically growing lettuce, herbs and vegetables for use in the kitchen at WCCC.
