Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation to hold its 50th Annual Hawaii State Farm Fair this Weekend July 7-8

Event will be held at Kualoa Ranch for the first time in its 50 year history

This weekend the Department of Agriculture will present the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation’s 50th annual Hawaii State Farm Fair, in partnership with the 4-H Livestock Council at Kualoa Ranch. This is the first time the event is being held at Kualoa Ranch and the event is free for children and students of all ages and $5 for the general public.

The event will feature live animals, demonstrations, food samples and interactive displays both Saturday and Sunday. Visit the Ag-Tastic Expo that will include the next generation of island farmers who grow tomatoes and squash, herbs, papaya, corn, mushrooms, taro, lavender, internationally-recognized award-winning coffee and more.  The farmers featured this year are:

Preschool Stories- 10:15 a.m. at Kaneohe Library, most Thursdays with Curt Fukumoto, including movement and fun activities for the preschoolers. call 233-5676.

Readers Group- Pohai Nani Readers Group meets the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at 3 p.m. in the second floor lounge area. Open to the public. Call Anne at 254-1147.

Family Fishing- Free Fishing days at Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Catch-and-release fishing for family fun. Call 233-7323.

Kailua Library will Offer Keiki Storytime this Summer

Kailua Public Library will offer Keiki Storytime: Summer 2012 on Wednesdays under the Reading Tree from July 11 – August 29.             

Keiki Storytime will be conducted from 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m.  Wally Amos, founder of the Chip & Cookie Read Aloud Foundation, will be a special guest reader on July 25 and August 8.  

Keiki Storytime is recommended for children ages 3 to 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The storytime will include stories and fingerplays.

Contact the library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

'Kanikapila in Kailua" Kicks off Third Concert with Del Beazley

The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation continues its popular music series Kanikapila in Kailua with a performance by six-time Na Hoku Hanohano-award-winning singer Del Beazley on Saturday, July 21.

Kanikapila in Kailua is a monthly program that celebrates the Hawaiian music and culture of Windward Oahu. It is held one Saturday a month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the parking garage near Whole Foods Market in Kailua Town. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, grab food from their favorite Kailua eatery, and sit back and relax.

Beazley, also known as "THE BEAZ," is a songwriter, composer, and arranger with strong connections to Hawaiian music. A Makaha native, Beazley learned to play the ukulele at a young age from his grandparents and the nlearned how to play the guitar and slack key while still in high school.
