Learn About "Energy Sufficiency Aquaponics" at Waimanalo Library April 24

In celebration of National Library Week 2013, “Energy Sufficiency Aquaponics,” a free informational program, will be presented at Waimanalo Public & School Library on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Martinez, owner-inventor of Hands On Training Aquaponics, will introduce MAD HOT STEAM (Make A Difference with Hands On Training Aquaponics) the Science, Technology, Engineering, AGRICULTURE Mathematics, an acronym that means growing the best quality food that anyone can grow.  The purpose of MAD HOT STEAM is to combine all the important components to make the best energy efficient recirculating Aquaponics system possible.  This program will include a question-and-answer session.

Kaʻaʻawa Elementary School 5K Family Fun Run/Walk at Kualoa to Support PCNC

Kualoa is set to host the fourth annual Kaʻaʻawa Elementary School 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on Saturday April 27, 2013. This is a unique opportunity for participants to race through the majestic Kaʻaʻawa Valley and past Kualoa’s award-winning movie sites. Proceeds from the Run/Walk will support the Parent Community Networking Center (PCNC), which handles the parent and child activities and programs for Kaʻaʻawa Elementary School. 

The PCNC works to organize activities and programs, including community events, the schools year book, and volunteer programs. However due to State budget cuts, PCNC position has lost its funding.

Keiki Storytime Offered this Spring at Kailua Library

Kailua Public Library will offer Keiki Storytime this spring on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. under the Reading Tree from April 17 – May 8. 

Keiki Storytime is free and recommended for children ages 2 to 5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The storytime will feature stories, sing-along songs, and a craft.

Contact the library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

“I Love Kailua” town party celebrates 21 years on April 28

Dozens of Kailua restaurants and eateries are preparing for “A Taste of Kailua” one of the features during the 21st annual of  “I Love Kailua” Town Party, taking place on Kailua Road from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 28. Town Party organizers encourage Kailua residents to leave their cars at home and walk or bicycle to the pedestrian-friendly event – and it’s also a great way to work up an appetite before hitting the food booths!

WHO: The Windward Choral Society (WCS) is sponsoring a day of fun and musical learning and performance with its pilot program entitled “Joy of Music Youth Choral Festival.”

EVENT: This festival is a free one-day youth singing camp for 5th and 6th graders. It will be held on April 6, at Kainalu Elementary School in Kailua, and enrollment will be limited to the first fifty students who register. This event is possible through a grant from the Atherton Family Foundation.

Waimanalo Public & School Library Will Celebrate its 35th Anniversary on Feb. 27

Waimanalo Public & School Library, located at 41-1320 Kalanianaole Highway on the campus of Waimanalo Elementary and Middle School, will celebrate its 35th Anniversary with special performances, displays, and events on Wednesday, February 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The public is invited to attend this free event and the Library will be open during its normal Wednesday public service hours from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.      

Featured performers will include Halau Hula `O Kawaiho`omalu and Fun Fun the Clown.  Children’s activities will be offered and the Library and Waimanalo community will present photo displays.  

The Rotary Club of Windward Oahu Sunrise and Friends of Waimanalo Library are sponsoring Waimanalo Public & School Library’s 35th Anniversary Celebration.  Refreshments will be served.
