Whole Foods Market® Shoppers Raise More than $67,000  to Help Local Organizations Blossom

Whole Foods Market recently announced gifts for two local organizations in the first months of 2013 totaling more than $67,000. Aloha Harvest received more than $60,000 as a result of Whole Foods Market’s Grab & Give program, which ran from November through December of 2012. The Wāhea Foundation, a local foundation that perpetuates Hawaiian culture through hula, will receive more than $7,000 as the beneficiary of Whole Foods Market Kāhala store’s recent Community Support Day on Feb. 6, 2013. Whole Foods Market stores host Community Support Days a few times each year, where five percent of the net sales for that day is donated to a local organization.

Castle Medical Center’s Christmas Tree helping shine light on breast cancer awareness

Castle Medical Center is lighting its 60-foot Norfolk pine Christmas tree with 3,750 pink lights throughout the month of October to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The tree, which is located on the medical center’s front lawn, will also feature a gigantic pink awareness ribbon.
  
“We hope the tree will promote breast cancer awareness and remind women to undergo regular testing,” hospital President & CEO Kathy Raethel said. “It’s a way for us to honor those who have been lost to breast cancer and celebrate those who have beaten the disease.”
  
The tree’s will be lit with traditional holiday colors at the medical’s center community tree lighting ceremony Dec. 5.

Attend a Medicare Educational Workshop at Kailua Library on Aug. 25

“Understanding your Medicare Options Can be Easy as A, B, C. (And D!),” a free educational workshop for adults, will be presented at Kailua Public Library on Saturday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m. under the Reading Tree. 

Sani Asuao, a representative of a health care provider, will share basic information about Medicare and the benefits that are offered.  This workshop will provide participants with a better understanding of Medicare to make the right choices for their individual needs.   

The 45-minute workshop will include a question-and-answer session.  Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
