Whole Foods Market® Shoppers Raise More than $67,000  to Help Local Organizations Blossom

Whole Foods Market recently announced gifts for two local organizations in the first months of 2013 totaling more than $67,000. Aloha Harvest received more than $60,000 as a result of Whole Foods Market’s Grab & Give program, which ran from November through December of 2012. The Wāhea Foundation, a local foundation that perpetuates Hawaiian culture through hula, will receive more than $7,000 as the beneficiary of Whole Foods Market Kāhala store’s recent Community Support Day on Feb. 6, 2013. Whole Foods Market stores host Community Support Days a few times each year, where five percent of the net sales for that day is donated to a local organization.

FIRST INSURANCE COMPANY OF HAWAII NAMES JEFF SHONKA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

A group of sixth through eighth grade girls from the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii is participating in Hawaii’s first-ever Girls on the Run program. This 10-week program uses an evidence-based curriculum to break down stereotypes and increase participants’ self-esteem, confidence, and body image while providing them with the tools and physical endurance necessary to complete a 5K race. This season, the girls will celebrate their accomplishments by running in Honolulu’s first annual Color Run (thecolorrun.com).
