FIRST INSURANCE COMPANY OF HAWAII NAMES JEFF SHONKA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

Governor Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of more than $92.8 million for various Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) designed to maintain, upgrade and expand transportation infrastructure across Hawaii.

"Our highways, airports and harbors are essential to island commerce and our way of life; everyone depends on the daily reliability and functionality of this core infrastructure," said Governor Abercrombie.

Ironwood Tree Removal on North Kalaheo Avenue

The following information is provided by City & County of Honolulu:

A Department of Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry Division contractor will remove an Ironwood tree at 178 North Kalaheo Avenue in Kailua on July 5 and 6, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tree is being removed due to fire damage and will be replaced.

Motorists are advised that only one lane will be open to traffic and special duty police officers will be on scene to assist with traffic control.

Electric vehicle drivers now have two free places to charge up in Kailua

KAILUA, HAWAII – www.VoltaCharging.com and www.RevoluSun.com – Electric vehicle drivers will have new places to “charge up” for free in Kailua, as Volta Industries (Volta) and RevoluSun power up the first of two electric vehicle charging stations today outside of Whole Foods Market, located at 629 Kailua Road. The second station is to go live in two weeks at the Kailua Long’s Drugs located at 609 Kailua Road. These stations are part of the Volta Hawaii network, a community-sponsored, free-to-use electric vehicle (EV) charging network.

Last night the District 4 (Waimanalo, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kahuku) conducted a Safer Roads operation at three locations, Pali hwy, H-3 Frwy, and Kamehameha Hwy. between 10:30 pm and 3:00 am.

A total of 22 citations were issued of which 17 were for speeding.
